The Piedmont is one of the Italian regions with the most ski slopes. As a result, Sestriere is the regional city most well known for winter tourism, the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski circuit included. The success of this district had already been recognized in 1997 when hosting the World Ski Championships and, in 2006, with both the Turin Winter Para-Olympics and Olympics.
The importance of Sestriere to skiing is due to its kilometres of ski runs of all types from blue to black, with 89 lifts that provide easy access to the desired run in optimal safety. In addition to all that, the outdoor ice skating facilities, cannot be underrated, a constant thrill for passionate skaters.
Sestriere’s most well known and famous ski runs are theKandahar slalom Giovanni Alberto Agnelliwith a difficult course due to slope gradients and curves as well as theSisesanother very steep and equally demanding expert-only run for avid Alpine skiers and snowboarders alike.
